1. Cleaning: Remove Debris & Contaminants

  • Daily Routine: Use a pressure washer or brush to clean the grader’s chassis, blade, and engine compartment. Focus on removing soil, gravel, and grease buildup, which can cause corrosion or overheating.

  • Blade Care: Scrape off hardened mud or asphalt residues from the blade surface to maintain cutting efficiency and prevent material accumulation.

2. Fluid Inspection & Top-Up

  • Engine Oil: Check oil level with the dipstick and replace if dark or contaminated. Top up to the recommended mark using the specified viscosity oil.

  • Hydraulic System: Inspect hydraulic fluid level and color. Low levels may indicate leaks, while cloudy fluid suggests water contamination—urgently address both issues.

  • Coolant & Fuel: Verify coolant level in the radiator (when cold) and ensure the fuel tank is sealed to prevent moisture ingress.

3. Lubrication of Moving Parts

  • Grease Points: Locate and grease pivot points, articulation joints, and blade lift cylinders as per the manufacturer’s manual (typically daily or every 8 working hours).

  • Chain & Sprocket: Apply anti-wear lubricant to drive chains, ensuring no dryness or excessive slack.

4. Component Check & Tightening

  • Bolts & Nuts: Inspect and tighten loose bolts on the blade, frame, and tires. Pay special attention to vibrating parts like the ripper shanks.

  • Tire Condition: Check tire pressure (match manufacturer specs) and inspect for cuts, bulges, or uneven wear. Rotate tires periodically for balanced wear.

5. Hydraulic & Electrical System Checks

  • Hydraulic Leaks: Examine hoses, fittings, and cylinders for oil seepage. Replace cracked hoses or damaged seals immediately to avoid system failure.

  • Electrical Connections: Verify that lights, gauges, and control switches function properly. Tighten loose wiring and clean corroded terminals.

6. Blade & Cutting Edge Maintenance

  • Edge Wear: Inspect the blade’s cutting edge for dents or excessive wear. Sharpen or rotate the blade (if reversible) to maintain precision grading.

  • Blade Alignment: Ensure the blade is level and properly aligned to prevent uneven grading and mechanical stress.

7. Engine & Cooling System Care

  • Air Filter: Clean or replace the air filter to prevent dust accumulation, which reduces engine efficiency and causes premature wear.

  • Radiator Fin Cleaning: Use compressed air to remove debris from radiator fins, ensuring optimal heat dissipation.

8. Operational Pre-Check Before Use

  • Test Functions: Before starting work, activate all controls (blade lift, tilt, articulation) to check for smooth operation. Listen for unusual noises or jerks indicating mechanical issues.

  • Brake & Steering: Verify brake effectiveness and steering responsiveness to ensure safety during operation.

Key Tips for Longevity:

  • Record-Keeping: Maintain a maintenance log to track fluid changes, part replacements, and inspection dates.

  • Storage Practices: Park the grader in a covered area to protect from rain and UV damage. Use wheel chocks and lower the blade to the ground for stability.

  • Professional Servicing: Schedule quarterly or annual professional maintenance for deep-system checks (e.g., engine diagnostics, hydraulic flush).

By adhering to these daily maintenance steps, graders can operate efficiently, minimize downtime, and extend service life while ensuring safety on the construction site. Regular care prevents costly repairs and optimizes grading performance.
